With all the buzz these days about "ending the stigma" of mental health struggles, why do we seem just as unhappy as ever, or maybe even worse? For many of us, something just doesn't feel right. We have:
more therapists
more medications
more entertainment
more gadgets to "make life easier"
more ways to communicate
more info than ever beforeYet, we also have:
more Fear, Anger, Shame and Trauma (F.A.S.T.)
more loneliness
more overwhelm
There is no shortage of good advice, and you're smart. So are many experts. You might be successful in many areas of life, and yet still struggle after much studying and tons of tools.Highly qualified experts are readily available, and maybe you have explored them: counselors, therapists, coaches, churches, pastors, priests, sages, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and so on. Maybe you have read ancient wisdom, followed modern thought leaders. The problem is often that they focus too deeply on too few things, or too broadly on too many things.Few experts really understand that mental wellness is only part of the picture. Some do understand that we have a body, spirit and soul. Even then, though, it gets "weird" amidst a bunch of esoteric philosophies that feel unnatural or too hypothetical and ungrounded in reality. The principle they may not understand is that those three parts of ourselves are not only designed to work together, but that God has already clearly given us the roadmap, the blueprint: they need to all be in humble surrender to him and his ways.If we do not live with an understanding of His blueprint, then the sufferings we endure hurt even more. The contentment he longs for us to have is harmed, and our joy and hope can fade. But if you learn the simple principle that many experts don't know, you can find more healing than you might believe is possible!
When asked what is the most important command, Jesus answered the question (Matthew 7:7) with three steps:
-Ask (and it will be given)
-Seek (and you shall find)
-Knock (and the door will be opened)
These 3 steps address the whole person - body, spirit and soul. The A.S.K. method is a biblical process to help you live this out for the rest of your life.As you see the pure wisdom in Jesus' most important commandment for us, you'll see why this answers mankind's mental health questions.Jesus' main interest is not just our mental health, but also our salvation, fullness, and joy. If you want to learn about how faith and mental wellness intersect, come and discover the A.S.K. method.Stop living with overwhelm, and pleasing people so much that you don't have any "you" left over. If you feel shutdown, let the Lord help you to get back to his blueprint through Scripture, combined with modern professional understanding of how our minds and emotions work, as well as how to place the entire person under the Spirit's leadership.
